What is the best way to design my logo?
These days the temptation is to design your logo using AI. Here’s why that is a bad idea:
Anything produced by AI is considered public domain and if AI was able to create it for you, it would be able to create a similar logo for your competitor. This could lead to confusion in the marketplace when customers can’t tell the difference between the companies, and here’s the bad news: Because it was created in AI, you have no legal jurisdiction to sue the other company. Your only recourse will be to rebrand, which could cost you thousands of dollars in the future.
In addition to this risk, AI will not give you the high-quality image in all the formats you need.
You will need a PNG logo for social media and your website. This file format allows the image to upload quickly.
You will need a JPG logo for high-quality printing on your business cards, flyers and other printed materials.
You will need a vectorized logo, which could come in a SVG, AI or EPS format. These formats likely won’t open on your computer. Don’t throw them away! You will need these logos for banners, vehicle wraps, and signage.
In the early days of your business when money is tight, I know it seems easier and cheaper to design a logo using AI, but it isn’t worth it. It might cost you a little more to have a graphic designer design your logo, but in the long run, you will get a result that is more original and reflective of your company. A logo designed in AI just isn’t worth the risk.
